A LITERARY JOURNAL FOR OUTSIDERS

Rabbitbrush.org is a person-focused, place-based literary arts journal catering to outsiders with a connection to the American West (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming).

Take heart if you are not from the West, if your writing is about it we want to see it.

Additionally, we specifically seek work rural artists about rural places and we encourage anyone, anywhere who writes from that experience to submit.

In the creative world, "outsiders" have traditionally been self-taught artists who create for personal expression rather than commercial success, lack traditional training and live on the margins of society. However, we understand there are many circumstances that push people to be "outside of" the mainstream lived experience, regardless of academic training. In that vein, we encourage people living in rural or isolated areas, people currently experiencing poverty or who grew up poor; people experiencing housing instability; people living with disabilities of any kind; people with mental health challenges; our elders; people in the LGBTQIA+ community; people in recovery; communities of color and youth to submit.

We understand there are many more variations of life on the "outside of" the mainstream. We encourage you to tell us your story. To do so, please see our Submission Guidelines
